How to convert rem to microsieverts
This converts units of an equivalent dose that has already been determined. It does not infer sieverts from grays or estimate individual health risk. Radiation and tissue weighting are not unit factors.
Use x for the value in rem, b for the intermediate value in Sv, and y for the result in µSv.
µSv = rem × 0.01 ÷ 0.000001
Worked examples
10 rem ≈ 100000 µSv
Step 1: (10 × 0.01) ≈ 0.1 Sv.
Step 2: 0.1 ÷ 0.000001 ≈ 100000 µSv.20 rem ≈ 200000 µSv
Step 1: (20 × 0.01) ≈ 0.2 Sv.
Step 2: 0.2 ÷ 0.000001 ≈ 200000 µSv.
Results are rounded to 12 significant digits. Converting units does not increase the precision of the original measurement. Very large or small values outside JavaScript’s finite numeric range are rejected.
