How to convert megabits per second to bytes per second
A byte per second is 8 bits per second. Decimal Mbps and binary Mibit/s differ. These rates exclude protocol overhead; real transfer time also depends on throughput and latency.
Use x for the value in Mbit/s, b for the intermediate value in bit/s, and y for the result in B/s.
B/s = Mbit/s × 1000000 ÷ 8
Worked examples
10 Mbit/s ≈ 1250000 B/s
Step 1: (10 × 1000000) ≈ 10000000 bit/s.
Step 2: 10000000 ÷ 8 ≈ 1250000 B/s.20 Mbit/s ≈ 2500000 B/s

Results are rounded to 12 significant digits. Converting units does not increase the precision of the original measurement. Very large or small values outside JavaScript’s finite numeric range are rejected.
