How to convert kilowatts to megawatts
Mechanical horsepower is 550 foot-pounds-force per second. Metric horsepower uses 75 kilogram-force meters per second and has a different value.
Use x for the value in kW, b for the intermediate value in W, and y for the result in MW.
MW = kW × 1000 ÷ 1000000
Worked examples
10 kW ≈ 0.01 MW
Step 1: (10 × 1000) ≈ 10000 W.
Step 2: 10000 ÷ 1000000 ≈ 0.01 MW.20 kW ≈ 0.02 MW
Step 1: (20 × 1000) ≈ 20000 W.
Step 2: 20000 ÷ 1000000 ≈ 0.02 MW.
Results are rounded to 12 significant digits. Converting units does not increase the precision of the original measurement. Very large or small values outside JavaScript’s finite numeric range are rejected.
