How to convert gibibytes to kibibytes
One byte is 8 bits. Decimal kilo/mega/giga use powers of 1000; binary kibi/mebi/gibi use powers of 1024. Marketing capacity and operating-system displays can therefore differ.
Use x for the value in GiB, b for the intermediate value in B, and y for the result in KiB.
KiB = GiB × 1073741824 ÷ 1024
Worked examples
10 GiB ≈ 10485760 KiB
Step 1: (10 × 1073741824) ≈ 10737418240 B.
Step 2: 10737418240 ÷ 1024 ≈ 10485760 KiB.20 GiB ≈ 20971520 KiB
Step 1: (20 × 1073741824) ≈ 21474836480 B.
Step 2: 21474836480 ÷ 1024 ≈ 20971520 KiB.
Results are rounded to 12 significant digits. Converting units does not increase the precision of the original measurement. Very large or small values outside JavaScript’s finite numeric range are rejected.
