Data Storage / B → KiB
Convert Bytes to Kibibytes
Convert bit and byte counts with explicit decimal and binary prefixes. Convert Bytes (B) to Kibibytes (KiB). Find the formula, worked examples, unit definitions, and practical guidance below.
How to convert bytes to kibibytes
One byte is 8 bits. Decimal kilo/mega/giga use powers of 1000; binary kibi/mebi/gibi use powers of 1024. Marketing capacity and operating-system displays can therefore differ.
Use x for the value in B, b for the intermediate value in B, and y for the result in KiB.
KiB = B ÷ 1024
Worked examples
10 B ≈ 0.009765625 KiB
Step 1: (10 × 1) ≈ 10 B.
Step 2: 10 ÷ 1024 ≈ 0.009765625 KiB.20 B ≈ 0.01953125 KiB
Step 1: (20 × 1) ≈ 20 B.
Step 2: 20 ÷ 1024 ≈ 0.01953125 KiB.
Results are rounded to 12 significant digits. Converting units does not increase the precision of the original measurement. Very large or small values outside JavaScript’s finite numeric range are rejected.
About Bytes
Bytes (B) measures data storage under the conventions above. The base value in B is (x × 1), where x is the numerical value in B. Factors shown here are rounded for display; calculations use the stored factor.
About Kibibytes
Kibibytes (KiB) measures data storage under the conventions above. The base value in B is (x × 1024), where x is the numerical value in KiB. Factors shown here are rounded for display; calculations use the stored factor.
